final post

This week I mainly worked on putting the details onto the picture. I am not finished with it yet but I only mainly have the clouds, mountain, water, and land to do. I spent many hours and fried eyeballs staring at the screen placing the lines for scales and lines for trees. It is surprising how many little marks it takes to go along a neck or back and how time consuming it can get. It is also surprising how much difference they add to the picture and make it pop. I am real happy on how it is turning out and can’t wait till I’m finished. I figured I could use some of the effects of photoshop to help me out on the water, mountain, and land to make them go by more quickly to get the look I want. I might also play with it some to see if I can add to the trees a bit. I also need to add some basic shading below the trees, in the trees some, and a bit more on the dinosaurs if I have time. I also figured out how to capture my screen so I went through the process of documenting the different steps for my painting tutorial. I have the drawing part, the basic background, then the basic dinosaurs/foreground, and then some of the detailing.

final post 2

This week I started to actually do the digital painting. I new the basic colors I wanted for my background which were pretty obvious. The hard part was figuring out what colors I wanted to use for my dinosaurs. The only thing I knew was that I wanted them to be fairly brightly colored. I figured I also wanted one of the dinosaurs to be mainly a cooler color and the other to be a warmer color. After playing a around with different color schemes I figured I wanted the T Rex to be cool because I wanted my Armargasaurus to be hot pinkish and lime green color. That only left to figure out what colors to make the T Rex now. I started off with a dark, rich purple color with a bright yellow underneath. It turned out not quite bright enough to me so I decided on probably doing a bluish color. I stuck with a basic yellow bottom but I made it a little less bright. I then picked a red for the T Rex’s crests and plated scales along his feat because they stand out bright against the blue. I have now basically completed all my base colors and prepared myself for completing details over the next week.

Precrease both diagonals then precrease square in half on both sides

Invert both B & C to bring point D to point a then you have a preliminary base

Petal fold upwards then flip it over

Petal fold upwards then you have bird base 1

Fold both flaps down then you have bird base 2

Valley fold one layer up and then rabbit ear fold to side

Fold the middle in half then rabbit ear fold front and back layers to form legs

Inside reverse fold the leg and inside reverse fold the two inner layers of leg too

Inside reverse fold the leg and inside reverse fold the two inner layers of leg too

Fold tail inside and then unfold reverse fold on leg

Swivel fold to form arms then reform the reverse fold on leg

Tuck in arm and outside reverse fold to form head

Fold chest and snout in then Spread squash fold to form arm

school ad

I started off sketching different ideas in my sketch book. I played with how I would make the title look and how I would arrange all the different elements. Not feeling very satisfied with my sketches yet I decided to flip through our book and see all the different examples of ads. After this I was a little further along because I decided on only using one picture instead of multiples to keep it from getting over crowded. I was thinking of adding a silhouette of a shark underneath the school’s name at the top and also a smaller form of my school logo attached somehow to the school’s name on top. However I decided that it would be too much and a little to repetitive with the giant one at the bottom, besides you can see the bottom one a lot better anyways. With this decided and out of the way I then had to work on the font. Natural I wanted to stick to the old English style fonts since this is a Catholic school in England but the trouble with them is that they become hard to read when smaller, so hopefully I picked out a nice compromise of the two. The name of the school and the line below it are the same type of style for repetition, while the text below is different so it can be more easily read. The contrast is in the shark and the school’s name to add excitement and make them stand out and be noticed. The text is also all aligned on the right side as well to give it structure and flow.

school logo

well its suppose to be blue with red letters but I tried uploading it a few times and it is refusing so yea....... anyways here is my paragraph........
Well I started off wanting to make a logo with a shark so I looked up schools with shark logos and I found Saint Sebastian’s Catholic School logo. I felt the logo was alright but could use the shark in a more ferocious better way then just a picture of it. So I started off drawing a few ideas and then felt that to make it more exciting I’d have it focus on the head and it attacking its rivals. Once I made that decision I played with how I could signify the shark head as Saint Sebastian’s Catholic school. I started off with thinking that I would write the whole name out beside it to make it look kind of like a badge but the writing was too big and took away from the shark and if shrunk the letters would all be small as well as the shark and be a little confusing. I then figured I would put it inside the shark’s mouth. The only problem was the words would be way to small to fit it all inside the mouth. That’s when I decided to abbreviate it to St. S. I could just imagine the crowd chanting S. T. S. anyways instead of Saint Sebastian, because that’s quite the mouth full.

photoship black and white

Well I boosted the contrast a good bit and I increased the shadows and the brightness of the highlights. Then I used the multiply layer over it to add some color. The regular contrast on her face reminded me of the joker so i added some of the red around the mouth and put a little green to highlight the hair. Then wrote the famous words in spray paint on the wall then smudged them some.

photoshop work

Well this is my color photoshop picture. I just adjusted the levels and contrast in it until I got these colors. Then I burned the colors out and mixed them out creating a crazy blur like around it.

superhero

People never stay long, just pass through town. That's because Harmon, West Virgina has an Exxon station attached to a general store and a few clapboard houses back off the road. That's all. Estil Nathan Bedford Forrest Compton traded the ginseng he found in the mountains for food, tobacco, and shotgun shells, the only things a man really needs.

The local people talk about a secret government installation that they purport to be the destination of the unmarked, green truck that passes through every Wednesday. Estil never believed any of it, until the Wednesday that the truck stopped, steam spewing from under the hood. While the driver busied himself reattaching a loose radiator hose, Estil climbed into the back of the truck and hid beneath several layers of tarps. Back on the road, the driver called ahead ot the first security checkpoint. Estil was surprised when he made it through the first two checkpoints undetected. At the third checkpoint, Dr. Lassiter and a half dozen armed soldiers waited for him. The bright glare of the sun as the tarps were lifted was all Estil saw until he woke up, strapped to a table and surrounded by people in masks and crisp white lab coats. That was the beginning of the only adventure Estil ever had.

Estil soon realized he was the subject of biological experiments. After countless weeks of probes, needles, serums, and torturous surgeries Estil was desperate for escape. Then one day the guards slipped unlocking his enormous iron cuffs before his right arm was fully deactivated allowing Estil to quickly shoot out his enormous claw into the guard. Estil quickly lashed off the ropes binding his wings and flew off into the dark, cold mountains. On his way out, he silently promised the other victims that he would be back for them.

We created Estil because we wanted a boring character and boring place so we picked a tiny town in West Virginia. Going along with that theme of course our character had to be a hillbilly. Then we decided he was going to be an experiment for a secret government facility that breaks loose and destroys the governmental facilities. We picked a generic human form and pasted on predator arms, wings, space helmet, overalls, and boots. Then we smoothed things together and blended them, and that was about it.
